1. To enter Egypt you need your passport to be at least 6 months more valid. The visa for tourists for the period of 1 month is issued right in the airport upon arrival and costs 15 dollars. Children under 14 endorsed into the parent’s passports do not get a separate visa traveling under the visa of their parents.
2. What to do in the airport:
- land;
- enter the arrival hall, take the emigration card from the tour operators desks, fill it in (some will try to sell you this card for 5$ - do not agree, it is free of charge);
- buy the visa for $15, glue it on to an empty page in your passport;
- queue for the registration where you will turn in the emigration card and get a stamp in your passport;
- pass one more check by the security guard (to fasten the process do not put away your passport, keep it open on the visa page);
- get your luggage.
3. Take the currency with you both in dollars or euro because some leisure offices prefer to accept euros. Exchanging the currency for local Egyptian pounds do not exchange big amounts. You may happen not to have a chance to exchange it the other way around.
4. Going to Dahab get a insurance, especially n case you are going to dive.
5. Traveling in Dahab by taxi pay the driver 5, maximum 10 pounds depending on the distance. This way the road from the Laguna will most likely cost you 10 pounds, around Dahab – 5.
6. Shopping in any stores (except for supermarkets, drug stores and shops with fixed prices) especially souvenir shops bargain!!! The first price you will hear will most probably be 3 times more.
7. Drink only bottled water, wash the fruits and vegetables with it as well. Eat only in checked restaurants with good reputations (read about them in Dahab section of the Guide book)
8. Going to Dahab take some warm things with you: during the night in winter and autumn is might be quite cold.
9. If you are going on an excursion to Cairo, for example, to the Giza pyramids, do not
agree taking photos on a camel – you well get on it having agreed on one price, and getting off you will be asked to pay the price in dollars, not pounds. Do not accept any presents from the local, after this you will have to pay for it. Do not take photos with “Bedouins” – Arabs wearing Bedouin clothes, they will force you to pay for the photo. Do not by anything near the Pyramids – the prices there are extremely inflated. All the same souvenirs you will be able to buy in Dahab for much cheaper.
10. Please, take care about the fragile and amazing world of the Red Sea: do not litter in the sea, diving do not brake the corals, do not feed and tease the underwater inhabitants, regulate your buoyancy. If you have noticed litter underwater consult your guide: most probably you can collect it. This way you will help to reserve the ecological balance of the Red Sea.
11. If diving – a 3 minute safety stop at 5 meters is a must!
12. In Dahab it very profitable to buy diving equipment, here it is much cheaper than in many other countries. So if there is something missing in your equipment you can buy it here, or rent it.)
